Setting Opsgenie On-call Schedules

On-call Schedules are configurations that allow designated individuals to receive alerts during specific dates or time periods.

It is easier to manage if each Rotation consists of only one member.

Adding a Rotation

When you add a Rotation to the On-call schedules, the designated recipient in the Rotation will receive the alerts.

The content shown under Final schedule is the finalized schedule. The red vertical line indicates the current time, showing who is currently responsible for receiving alerts.

  1. Click +Add rotation within On-call schedules.
  2. Set a name for the Rotation and search to add Participants.

Participants do not need to be team members.

  3. Select the Rotation type.
  4. Choose the start date from Start on.
    1. Toggle Ends on to set an end date for the Rotation.
  5. Toggle Restrict to time intervals to configure the time during which alerts will be received.
    1. Time of day: Set specific times.
    2. Weekday and time of day: Set specific weekdays and times.
  6. Click Add to add the Rotation.

Example

  • This screen shows Rotation1 (Kim Minsu) set from July 1, 2019, Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00.
  • After adding Rotation1 (Kim Minsu), this is how it appears in On-call schedules.
  • Rotation2 (Seo Ingu) is added and configured for Monday–Saturday, 18:00–09:00.

Adding Overrides

Overrides are useful for assigning temporary replacements during scheduled time off such as vacations or business trips.

Schedules set in Overrides have a higher priority than Rotations.

  1. Click +Add override
  2. Search and select a User.
    1. Only one member can be selected per override.
    2. The user does not have to be a team member.
  3. If needed, select a specific Rotation to override.

    1. If you select a Rotation, the override only applies to that Rotation. If not, the override takes precedence over all Rotations.

  4. Set the Start date and time and End date and time.
  5. Click Add to complete.

Example

  • This override selects Rotation1 (Kim Minsu) from September 7 at 16:00 to July 11 at 14:00.
In the Final schedule, you can confirm that only Rotation1 (Kim Minsu) is overridden.
  • If you apply the same override without selecting a Rotation, it will override all Rotations.
