Messenger
You can communicate with stakeholders by sharing log files, screenshots, and more within a channel.
Even users who join the channel later can view the entire message history.
Direct Message (DM)
You can exchange 1:1 messages with other users.
DMs appear under the Direct Messages section in the left sidebar of Slack.
Click the user you want to message.
In the profile popup, click Message.
Edit & Delete Messages
You can edit or delete messages even after they have been sent.
If any security-related violation occurs, please delete the message yourself.
Hover over the message you want to edit or delete.
Click More actions (three dots icon) on the right.
Select Edit message or Delete message as needed.
Threads
If a conversation develops from a specific message, you can create a Thread to keep discussions organized.
All threads you’re involved in can be viewed under Threads in the left menu.
Hover over the message you want to reply to in a thread.
Click Reply in thread (speech bubble icon) on the right.
Pin
You can Pin important messages like announcements within a channel so they’re easy to find later.
Pinned messages can be accessed by clicking Pinned under the channel name at the top. Clicking an item takes you to the original message.
Hover over the message you want to pin.
Click More actions (three dots icon).
Select Pin to channel.
Saved items
For personal use (not channel-wide), you can Save items instead of pinning.
Saved items are accessible from the Saved items section at the top of the left sidebar.
Hover over the message you want to save.
Click Add to saved items from the menu.
Channel Star
You can Star frequently used channels to access them more easily if you belong to many channels.
Starred channels appear in a separate Starred section above the channel list.
Right-click the channel name in the list.
Under Move channel, select the desired section.
Share
You can share messages with other channels or users.
However:
Messages from Private Channels can only be shared within that channel.
Messages from Public Channels can be shared anywhere.
Shared messages retain their original state at the moment of sharing — subsequent edits to the original won't reflect in the shared message.
Hover over the message to share.
Click Share message... (arrow icon).
Choose the target channel/user and add an optional message.
Click Share.
