Slack Workspace & Channel Structure
Slack is structured with multiple Channels under a single Workspace.
Public Channels are accessible to anyone who joins the workspace. You may be auto-joined to default public channels, or you can join additional channels by using the search bar at the top of Slack and clicking Join Channel.
Private Channels are only visible to members who have been invited. You cannot see or search for a private channel unless you are a member.
Note: Only Admins can create and configure channels. Most channels are created as Private by default.
Public Channel | Private Channel | |
---|---|---|
Created By | Any member of the workspace | Admin |
Access | Any workspace member | Only invited members |
Invite Permissions | Any current member of the channel |
